Been having trouble about opening games for the past 1month and a half. I extract and try to run but all it does is have the cursor have a loading icon for like 2 seconds and stop, nothing opens, nothing changes. Tried to check log.txt and it never updated, thought it was a com surrogate thing because every time I open it appears as well, thought it was a downloading error so I re-downloaded/extracted the games multiple times in different folder placements and still didn't work. tried /sfc scannow didn't work, tried so many things an d it still wont work. Genuinely contemplating resetting windows as a whole just to open these games but that's going too far. Just if you have the same issues help.

Are they Japanese games or Western games? What you are describing sounds a lot like what happens when you launch some Japanese games without using a local emu. Also are you running it on an admin account?

Have you tried going into appdata - renpy - find game name and deleting the persistent file for one of them then tried to launch it again?

If you could also give a few more details such as OS etc. that will help a lot.

If the appdata thing doesn't work, I found two things that might with a google search. Worth a shot.

I check the renpy file in appdata and it doesn't even have the file for the game.

It could be a buggy driver delivered automatically by Windows Update or a hardware problem. Try checking if you can run other apps that may rely on hardware acceleration (benchmarks, video editors, emulators, etc.).
Just checked with RPCS3, no issues there.

You should try to run these games using Windows Terminal/Command Prompt. Just open them in the game folder and run the EXE file. Maybe some error messages will appear this way. If all of them are made with Ren'Py, also try removing all save and persistent data (both in the game folder and appdata) and disconnect any gamepads.
Holy fucking shit it worked.

It works however if I want to play the game I would need to always use the command prompt but Im happy it just works.
Okay, so, if you have an anti-virus, there high chance that it's the culprit.

For some reasons he flag the windows version of the Python interpreter as being corrupted. When it can't launch it, Ren'Py fallback to the DOS version, what can only open the game if called from the console.

How to do it depend on you anti-virus, so you'll have to ask google about this, but you've to look at its recent activity, find "pythonw.exe" in the list, and tell your anti-virus that the file is in fact perfectly safe. This should solve the issue.
